Biological Structure Light Microscopy Resource (BSLMR) USer MAnual
The Biological Structure Light Microscopy Resource is provided and maintained by the Golden Lab. This resource is self-service, and provided at the discretion of the Golden Lab to individual Lab Users.
Use of equipment is contingent on consideration, upkeep and follow-through on reserved time slots. Lab Users who do not abide, will be removed.
Use of equipment is contingent on prior training and orientation. Permissions will only be provided once training requirements have been met.
For equipment that requires consumable reagents, all Lab Users are required to procure, maintain and provide their own consumable reagents.
If you have any health risks associated with using the equipment, Lab Users must inform the Golden Lab prior to starting training and orientation. Safety is the primary concern, but with appropriate notice all efforts will be made to accommodate all Lab Users.
Live human tissues or primary cultures are not permitted in the Resource. Fixed human tissues and primary cultures may be used.
Reservations are ‘first-come-first-serve’ via the UW CORAL system or though direct scheduling with the Golden Lab, as indicated in each equipment information section. Any restrictions with regard to signing up on an individual instrument will be posted on a web page for that instrument.
Life happens. If the Lab User cannot make a previously scheduled appointment, please send the next Lab User on the calendar for that equipment an email, along with the Golden Lab.
If you sign up for an overnight slot, it is the Lab User’s responsibility to return and turn-off the equipment (as detailed during training and orientation) the next morning. Even if the next morning is a weekend or Holiday. If another Lab User is using the equipment immediately after the overnight slot, determine in advance between Lab Users if the equipment must be turned off or can be transferred to the next Lab User.
Images can be stored on the UW Coral or Golden Lab server for two weeks before they are automatically purged. Lab Users are responsible for backing up their own data in that time frame. Any images stored locally on acquisition computer systems may be deleted without warning.
Clean up after you are done. This includes cleaning objectives, counter tops, covering the microscope and removing all your materials.
Publication authorship or acknowledgement are to be discussed by the Lab User, the Lab User PI and the Golden Lab prior to the start of each project, and recorded via email.
Please bring any issues to the attention of The Golden Lab immediately as they arise.
The Lab User agrees to review and abide by all these policies, and cannot register for the UW Coral reservation system without doing so first.
